About the CNC Production CNC O-Type Pinion Gear
This is a replacement/upgrade motor pinion gear from CNC Production. It will work on O-type and D-type shafts. We often use these combined with upgrade motors for an optimal motor pinion engagement as some factory pinion gears are less than ideal out of the box.
The motor pinion gear is the tiny gear that is mated to the motor and meshes with the bevel gear inside the gearbox. When the motor is given power, it spins the shaft which the pinion gear is mounted to. The pinion gear will turn the bevel gear, which turns the spur gear, which turns the sector gear, and pulls back the piston. This tiny gear does a lot of work for how insignificant it seems. The gears all need to be shimmed properly and the pinion gear must be set up at the right height to have a smoother sounding gearbox. Assuming that the gears inside the gearbox are all shimmed appropriately, if you hear that your airsoft gun doesn't sound very smooth when firing this could be attributed to motor height. Typically if a gun sounds high pitched and screechy out of the box, it may be that the motor pinion gear may be set too high or too low by way of motor height adjustment. The noise will come from having too little or two much contact between the pinion and bevel gears and this can cause additional wear, damage, or increased electrical load which are all bad. If you set the motor too high the gears end up binding and your gun will lock up. Repeated attempts to fire may overload your battery and damage it, as it is using an extreme amount of current to try and force the motor to turn a gear that cannot move.
CNC Production was formerly known as SHS and these are the latest versions of their upgrade parts.
Note: Fox does not warranty or accept returns for parts that have been installed/attempted to be installed.
Note: Due to varying manufacturer tolerances for gearbox internals, parts compatibility no matter what version might NOT fit even if it is supposedly correct and fitment is NOT guaranteed. The reality is that some parts may need fitting and some parts might look the same but the dimensions are slightly different enough to not work. This will require technical experience to identify to overcome.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is rack and pinion CNC?
A: Rack and pinion CNC refers to a type of linear motion system used in CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines. It uses a rack (a flat, toothed bar) and a pinion gear (a small, round gear) to convert rotational motion into linear motion. This system is commonly used in CNC machines for precise movement along the X and Y axes.
Q: What is an example of a pinion gear?
A: An example of a pinion gear is the small gear used in a car's steering mechanism. It meshes with a rack to convert the steering wheel's rotational motion into linear motion that turns the wheels. In airsoft guns, the pinion gear is typically used in the motor assembly to drive the sector gear and ultimately cycle the piston.
Q: What are the 3 types of rack and pinion systems?
A: The three types of rack and pinion systems are:
- Straight Rack and Pinion: The most common type, where the rack is straight and the pinion gear rotates to move the rack.
- Helical Rack and Pinion: Features helical teeth on the rack and pinion, which provides smoother and quieter operation compared to straight teeth.
- Spiral Rack and Pinion: Similar to helical but with a more pronounced spiral tooth design, used for specific applications requiring unique movement characteristics.
Q: What is the function of the steering pinion?
A: The function of the steering pinion is to convert the rotational movement of the steering wheel into linear motion that turns the vehicle’s wheels. The pinion gear meshes with the rack, causing it to move sideways and thus turning the wheels of the vehicle in the desired direction.
Q: How do you identify pinion and gear?
A: To identify a pinion and gear, look for the following:
- Pinion Gear: Typically smaller, round gear that meshes with a larger gear (rack or gear). It is often the driving component.
- Gear (or Rack): The larger gear or toothed bar that is driven by the pinion gear. In a rack and pinion system, the rack is the stationary toothed bar, while the pinion is the rotating gear.
- The pinion gear usually has fewer teeth and a smaller diameter compared to the larger gear it meshes with. In gear assemblies, the pinion is often mounted on a shaft and drives the larger gear.
What Our Customers Say
Fun & worth the money
"Tips for new players: buy tickets ahead of time online, use white bio bbs, and use real eye protection not ballistic sunglasses. The field is well managed and has a positive culture! hard to find a field as good as Fox Airsoft, I'm gonna start going there every week."
Had a great time
"go every weekend and I always love the field I just can’t wait for them to add more game modes and more buildings to urban field and add more bunkers to large that’s the only thing I have the downside to on large field Danny"
Amazing
"What an experience. We had over 20 kids ages ranging from 10-14. The staff went above and beyond on all accounts making sure our kiddos had a amazing experience. Would recommend it to anyone interested in airsoft!"
