Q: Should I tech my own guns?

A: The answer to this question is without a doubt situational. Some repairs and upgrades are relatively straightforward, and others are much more complex and run the risk of breaking your gun if you are not experienced. If you are not comfortable doing your own modifications, we can do the tech work for you.

Q: What’s a chronograph?

A:A chronograph is a device used to measure the velocity or energy of a projectile. This is done by calculating the time it takes for the projectile to go from point A to point B. They are usually a small box that you put the tip of your airsoft gun up to, and shoot through a tunnel that measures the bb’s velocity. This is the most efficient and accurate way to determine the feet per second or joule rating of your airsoft gun.

A chronograph is one of our most important tools at our store, and out at our field (flat acres farm). Our priority is to keep players safe, and we do that by chronographing each gun that a player brings to our field. As a general rule, every professionally run airsoft field will use a chronograph to test the velocity of your airsoft gun. Each field has its own unique set of rules regarding velocity, so it’s a good idea to research the field you plan on attending ahead of time to find out if your gun is field legal.

Our field groups airsoft rifles into three categories: Rifleman, Designated marksman rifle, and Sniper. Here are the current velocity limits for FAF:

• 1.5 Joules (~315 FPS with a .32g BB) - AEG (Full & Semi Auto) - No Minimum Engagement Distance / Use Semi-Auto within 10 feet.
• 1.5 Joules (~315 FPS with a .32g BB) - HPA (Full & Semi Auto) - No Minimum Engagement Distance / Use Semi-Auto within 10 feet.
• 1.5 Joules (~315 FPS with a .32g BB) - Pistols & Shotguns (Full & Semi Auto) - No Minimum Engagement Distance / Use Semi-Auto within 10 feet.
• 2.0 Joules (~366 FPS with a .32g BB) - AEG DMR (Semi Auto Only, 75ft Minimum Engagement Distance, Must Have Magnified Optic)
• 2.0 Joules (~366 FPS with a .32g BB) - HPA DMR (Semi Auto Only, 75ft Minimum Engagement Distance, Must Have Magnified Optic)
• 3.0 Joules (~450 FPS with a .32g BB) - Spring/HPA Sniper Rifles (Single Shot Bolt Action, 100ft Minimum Engagement Distance, Must Have Magnified Optic)

Q: Do I need a chronograph?

A: At our shop, if you purchase an airsoft gun from us you may use our chronograph to test the velocity. This is definitely something worth doing, so you know exactly what velocity your airsoft gun shoots. If you plan on upgrading or tinkering with your gun, the velocity will change. It’s difficult to guess with accuracy what your velocity will change to after installing an upgrade, as there are many variables that determine your gun’s velocity. If you plan on making any sort of modification to your airsoft gun, or want to make sure our rifle is performing as it should, a chronograph is a great tool to have available for use at any time.
