About the Unicorn Gear Grease

Having your gears lubricated and spaced properly (shimmed) is crucial to having a long lasting gearbox and reducing wear and tear. Using the correct lubricant on your gear set will keep your gears lasting longer, quieter, and resist heat build up which can lead to premature failures. Using the correct grease on your gears also keeps them lubricated longer and not leaking or splattering into other components.

Jag has developed a new line of chemicals for maintenance inside your gearbox so you can give your gun a comprehensive treatment for all the critical parts. There are three types of greases ASG has developed for just the gearbox and this particular is for your gear set. Now why can you not just use one grease for everything inside the gearbox? You can but they will break down at different rates based on what part that its applied to have different viscosity requirements.

For example, the gears have their own grease which will stick on like paste and not be thrown about as the gears spin. This is probably one of the thickest compounds you will want to use and you do not want bare metal on metal contact. Greased gears are happy gears. This cylinder grease is for coating your cylinder walls and piston O-ring. The o-ring expands when forcing air through the cylinder creating air pressure. The expansion of the o-ring gives the piston a good seal and ensures that no air is being lost when it is being pushed to drive the BB. This results in better efficiency and higher FPS for the same amount of work the gearbox is doing. Low quality airsoft guns with bad air seal will be working as hard if not harder to achieve mediocre levels of velocity. For the cylinder you will want the least amount of friction while keeping the protective properties that condition the rubber o-ring. The rapid movement and friction can cause the o-ring to get damaged so something thin that stays on the surfaces is needed. You do not want this grease to be runny and coming out of your cylinder. The last grease that ASG developed is a new kind that we have never seen before. The conductive switch paste is treatment for your gearbox switches. This in theory reduces arching, improve conductivity, and should not cook onto your switches which is just about as bad as burnt out switches. As you know, switches inside a gearbox, particularly without a MOSFET and subjected to lots of arching from high voltage batteries or lots of semi-auto use will be wearing out the switches faster than others. Though the switches are replaceable, it does mean some downtime and some gearbox work. This paste will extend the life of your switches though ultimately a MOSFET will also do that.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the best grease for gear linkages?

A: The best grease for gear linkages is typically a high-viscosity, synthetic grease that can withstand pressure and provide smooth operation. Greases designed specifically for automotive or machinery applications, such as lithium-based greases, are often recommended. It's essential to select a grease that is compatible with the materials used in the gear linkages to avoid degradation.

Q: What kind of grease do you use on plastic gears?

A: For plastic gears, it is advisable to use a grease formulated specifically for plastics, such as PTFE (Teflon) grease or silicone grease. These greases are less likely to cause damage or wear to the plastic components and help reduce friction while providing lubrication.

Q: Can I mix grease with gear oil?

A: Mixing grease with gear oil is generally not recommended, as they have different compositions and properties. Mixing them can lead to inconsistent lubrication, reduced performance, and potential damage to the components. It's best to use either grease or gear oil specifically designed for the application.

Q: Can Vaseline be used as gear grease?

A: While Vaseline (petroleum jelly) can provide some lubrication, it is not ideal for use as gear grease. It can break down under pressure and heat, leading to ineffective lubrication. It is better to use a grease specifically designed for gears, which can handle the stresses of operation and provide lasting protection.

Q: Why do gears need grease?

A: Gears need grease for several reasons:
- Reduce Friction: Grease minimizes friction between gear surfaces, reducing wear and extending the lifespan of the components.
- Prevent Overheating: Proper lubrication helps dissipate heat generated during operation, preventing damage from overheating.
- Protect Against Corrosion: Grease provides a protective barrier against moisture and contaminants that can cause corrosion and rust on gear surfaces.
- Improve Efficiency: Well-lubricated gears operate more smoothly and efficiently, leading to better overall performance.

"Tips for new players: buy tickets ahead of time online, use white bio bbs, and use real eye protection not ballistic sunglasses. The field is well managed and has a positive culture! hard to find a field as good as Fox Airsoft, I'm gonna start going there every week."

"go every weekend and I always love the field I just can’t wait for them to add more game modes and more buildings to urban field and add more bunkers to large that’s the only thing I have the downside to on large field Danny"
