Fox Custom Safety Lever - Reliable Replacement for Gearbox

The Fox Custom Safety Lever, a dependable component for gearbox functionality, is no longer available in our inventory. However, numerous exceptional options are on the market to cater to your airsoft gearbox needs. In particular, if you're searching for reliable internal parts for your airsoft electric gun, we recommend exploring our wide range of airsoft electric gun internal gearbox parts.

The Fox Custom Safety Lever, designed as a replacement for version 2 gearboxes, was essential for fixing broken internal safeties or constructing custom gearboxes from scratch. It's important to note that different gearboxes, such as those in MP5s, utilize distinct safety levers and gearbox shells. However, approximately 95% of the components remain standard version 2, highlighting an idiosyncrasy within the gearbox realm. As an aspiring airsoft tech, it's crucial to thoroughly research and ensure compatibility before purchasing specific parts. Another common gearbox type, version 3, is typically found in AK and G36-style guns. In V3 guns, the trigger blocking functions are performed by the trigger pieces, rendering safety levers unnecessary. The channel for the safety lever is a round hole, which may require slight filing or modification for a tighter fit on certain gearbox brands. Please be aware that Fox Airsoft cannot be held liable for any issues arising from your modifications or installation work.

The safety lever plays a crucial role within the gearbox by interacting with the selector plate and trigger. When the fire selector on the gun is moved, it engages with the internal selector plate, which in turn moves the safety lever. When the gun is in the safe position, a part of the lever physically blocks the trigger, preventing accidental firing. Although this part rarely breaks, it's not entirely immune to damage.

Due to varying manufacturer tolerances for gearbox internals, compatibility cannot be guaranteed even when using supposedly correct parts for specific versions. While some parts may require fitting, others may appear similar but have slight dimensional differences that prevent proper function. Identifying and overcoming these challenges may require technical experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a safety lever do?

A safety lever is a crucial component on firearms designed to prevent accidental discharge. When engaged, it blocks the firing mechanism, ensuring that the trigger cannot be pulled and the gun cannot fire. This added layer of safety is particularly important when handling or transporting the firearm, providing peace of mind and reducing the risk of accidental injuries. The safety lever can be easily disengaged when the shooter is ready to fire, allowing for quick and safe operation.

Why is lever action not used in military?

Lever action rifles are not commonly used in military applications primarily due to their slower rate of fire and lower ammunition capacity compared to modern semi-automatic and fully automatic rifles. Lever action rifles require manual cycling of the lever to chamber each round, which can be slower and less efficient in combat situations where rapid fire and quick reloads are crucial. Additionally, the design of lever action rifles makes them less compatible with modern tactical accessories and modular components that are standard in military firearms.

Are lever action rifles bad?

Lever action rifles are not inherently bad; in fact, they are highly regarded for their reliability, simplicity, and historical significance. They offer a unique shooting experience and are often favored for hunting, recreational shooting, and historical reenactments. However, their limitations in rate of fire and ammunition capacity compared to modern firearms make them less suitable for certain applications, such as military use or competitive shooting. Lever action rifles excel in scenarios where precision, tradition, and ease of use are valued.

Will a Glock fire if pressed against something?

A Glock, like many modern firearms, features multiple safety mechanisms designed to prevent accidental discharge, including a trigger safety. However, if enough force is applied to the trigger while the firearm is pressed against an object, it can still fire. It is essential to handle all firearms with caution and ensure that the trigger is not inadvertently engaged. Proper training and adherence to safety protocols are crucial to prevent accidental discharge in any situation.

What are the disadvantages of a lever action rifle?

Lever action rifles have several disadvantages compared to modern semi-automatic and fully automatic rifles. These include a slower rate of fire due to the manual cycling of the lever, lower ammunition capacity, and less compatibility with modern tactical accessories. Additionally, lever action rifles can be more challenging to reload quickly, as they typically require individual rounds to be loaded into a tubular magazine. While they are reliable and effective for many uses, these limitations make them less suitable for high-intensity or tactical applications.
