What is an Airsoft Gear Starter Kit?
Airsoft Gear Starter Kits are a great way to carry essentials such as extra magazines, batteries, and other accessories. While it is totally possible to play Airsoft with just a gun and face protection, having load bearing equipment such as a tactical vest or plate carrier with pouches on it allows you to organize your equipment and carry extra needed items. We have a variety of gear starter kits that include tactical vests, plate carriers, chest rigs, helmets, slings, magazines, and many other pieces of gear. The type of chest rig you select depends on the type of play you are going to be doing. If you're planning on playing long multi day games, it is ideal to build a loadout that will give you the ability to carry plenty of gear as well as additional water in the field. If you play a faster pace shorter game style, then a chest rig or leg rig may be ideal to save weight. If you're looking for a high end style of tactical gear, look at Blue Force Gear and HSGI brands. Each of these brands features top notch gear that is used by professionals worldwide. Our owner Matt Meraz uses a Blue Force Gear Chest Rig as his primary loadout. He likes being able to carry everything he needs while minimizing the weight he carries into the field. The helmet is a very popular piece of gear which not only provides additional protection while you play, but also allows the user to add head mounted accessories such as cameras, lights, night vision, and patches. You can also use it to mount a mesh face protector which is great for covering the soft tissue around your face as well as protecting your teeth. Slings are another item in some of our gear starter kits. A sling is an excellent piece of equipment to accompany your rifle. This keeps you from setting it down in the dirt when you need to take a rest. Some of the kits will also include extra magazines to keep you ready for those long fire fights on a busy day. We recommend a minimum of 3 spare magazines. If you plan on doing longer missions, you may consider carrying quite a few more into the field. As an example many players who play in multi-day national level operations carry between 6 and 12 magazines depending on the role they are playing.
Questions & Answers
Q: What is a Plate carrier?
A: A plate carrier is designed to hold ballistic armor plates. In Airsoft, they are used simply to hold equipment while providing the look of their real world counterpart.
Q: What does MOLLE mean?
A: MOLLE (pronounced Molly) is a military acronym that stands for: Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment. It is the strap and loop system used on tactical gear to attach pouches to vest/carriers.
Q: Should I get a plate carrier or a chest rig?
A: This depends on the mission type you are using it for. If you plan to run long missions that require extra gear, a plate carrier is a great option that allows you to carry more gear. The MOLLE webbing allows you to customize the plate carrier for your mission requirements. If you are looking at doing a shorter faster paced mission, check out chest rigs. These are lighter, carry less and give you just the essentials to complete the mission.
